From Growing Yourself to Growing Others

By Richard Huxley, M.Ed, LSSBB, CEC

There’s a season in life when growth feels personal: learning new skills, chasing goals, proving to yourself that you can do hard things. But leadership calls you to something higher. It’s the point where success stops being about you and starts being about them; the people you have the privilege to lead, encourage, and develop.

Jack Welch once said, “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.”

Real leadership is a reflection of the heart. It’s rooted in service, humility, and the desire to bring out the best in others. The greatest leaders don’t stand in the spotlight; they shine it on their team. When you shift from growing yourself to growing others, you become the kind of leader who changes not just results, but lives.

Leadership Reflection:
Who around you needs your encouragement, belief, or mentorship today? Leadership begins the moment you decide to help someone else grow.
